Investing in Trees
Every homesteader needs a vacation once in a while. Especially during the spring when homesteading can get especially stressful. But people always ask themselves: “Does it fit my budget?”, “Will it break the bank?”, or “Do we have the money?”.
These are very valid questions. It's perfectly normal for vacations to be a bit pricey. In fact, the thought of vacations being pricey often leads to stress while you're on vacation, and that's something you want to avoid altogether.
Wouldn't it feel good to know your vacation costs are covered by something else besides your job payment? Wouldn't it be nice to have a little extra money on hand? Even just a small percentage would make a big difference.
This method of earning extra cash doesn't have to apply to vacation costs only. It can be spent on buying gifts, the lottery, paying debts, or simply earning some extra money.
This method doesn't require buying anything you don't have, but it does require selling. “But how?” You may ask. “How do I sell something without buying anything first?”
Don't worry: no Garage Sales required! All you have to do is collect seeds or pits from the fruit you eat, and then, simply plant them, and sell them on Craigslist.
All You Need Are FRUIT SEEDS!
All of the seeds and pits I grow are planted in plain old soil from my vegetable gardens. I never buy any expensive seed starting soil from the plant store or even plant pots. I simply collect metal pop cans after drinking all the soda out and cut them in half. The size of each can is perfect for planting 4 medium sized seeds such as lemon seeds.

Fruit Tree Planting Schedule
1 Month – Plant seeds in pop cans.
2 Months – Replant the young (1-2 cm tall) seedlings into individual plastic cups.
3 Months – Replant into individual 2 L plastic pop bottles.
You could sell them on the third month, or you could wait a bit more and sell them for more.

Growing Trees For Profit TIPS
- Since I get all these seeds and pits from my trees on the homestead, they could even qualify as organic! Which is of course what I write on my Craigslist ad for them.
- If you want to sell your tree for TWICE AS MUCH wait until it reaches at least 2 ft. tall and then attach a branch from the same type of tree onto it. This will cause the tree to grow fruit (if this step is not done a tree will not produce fruit). When you write this on your Craigslist ad, make sure to double the price.
- I grow these on pretty much every window sill in the house (except for the ones in the living room). Make sure to always grow them inside as they can freeze or get blown over outdoors.
This money making hobby is great because you can grow trees indoors all year round!
Well, that's all and good luck folks. I've got plantin' to do…
Let me know how your own tree farming goes! Of course, if you start doing this on a larger scale you'll have to get some paperwork involved. But if you just plan on making a little extra cash and spending it on vacation, I see no harm done.
